The Ginkgo is one of the oldest living tree species in the world. It is the sole survivor of an ancient group of trees that date back to before dinosaurs roamed the Earth – creatures that lived between 245 and 66 million years ago. It’s so ancient, the species is known as a ‘living fossil’.

This elegant ginkgo tree has a refined trunk filled with charm and quiet. Highlights of this bonsai include the changing colors of the leaves through the seasons and the passage of years.

Tsukimi means nothing more than “looking at the moon” The Japanese custom of holding special moon-viewing parties, in autumn in particular, dates above over a thousand years. Traditionally it was a way of expressing gratitude for a good harvest and hopes for a similar bounty in the future. Imaging a time before cell phones and television and coming across this moon-viewing Ginkgo. Can you see it?
