One of the most popular types of bonsai, California Junipers are members of the Cypress family. They are native to southwestern North America; as the name implies. It is mainly found in California, but also extends through most of Baja California, and a short distance into southern Nevada and Western Arizona.
These long-lived trees are very slow to grow. They have a spreading growth habit with lush branches. Their foliage, however, is the ‘roughest’ of any other juniper trees. The color of the foliage is green to bluish green. The trunk of the tree becomes irregular and forked as it matures, and the thin, shredded bark turns gray and peels easily.
Collected 15 years ago by Yuzo Maruyama in the Mojave Desert. This is one of the easiest bonsai trees to care for, making it an excellent choice for individuals who are new to the world of owning a bonsai.
